The AP Language and Composition course is an introductory college-level course emphasizing expository, analytical, and argumentative writing that forms the basis of academic and professional communication. Its purpose is to enable students to read complex texts with understanding and to write prose of sufficient richness and complexity to communicate understanding and to communicate effectively with mature readers. The course is structured on teaching critical reading, working within the framework of American literature. Students are prepared to take the AP exam in May, and this is a requirement of the course. Financial aid will be made available to those students for whom the exam fee may be a burden.
